           Many individuals do not grasp the dangers of the wilderness and the limited resources which comes with it. Chris is an example of this. Chris is negligent of the dangers of survival within the wilderness as he only packed with him a ten pound bag of rice, a small calibre rifle, and other items which are perhaps useless. From this alone Chris wasn't expected to survive long in the wild but if he had studied his situation rather than just going in blind, Chris would have had a better chance. To be well suited for the rigors of mother nature, one must have a strong knowledge of the basics. These basics include how to create shelter, properly prepare a meal from a kill, how to distill drinkable water, and how to tell location without any equipment. Unfortunately, Chris did not have these basics as he would only eat berries, rice, and a failed attempt at preparing food from a kill. If Chris had kept these basic essentials of survival in mind he would have been able to endure nature at its fiercest but like many, he assumed he understood what it takes to survive in the wild and he unfortunately died(although happy for his accomplishments).

A Different Name A Different Person

'' When McCandless applied  for the McDonalds job, he presented himself as Chris McCandless, not as Alex, and gave his employers his real social security numbers'' ( krakauer 40 ).

It can be argued that by calling himself Alex, Chris McCandless is a completely different person from a societal point of view. For instance when Chris is referred to as Alex he is defiant towards any commodities in which is brought down against him by others such as appearance or social enactment. But once referred to as Chris, he is legally obligated and bound by the rules of society. Chris seems to only associate his real name when it is truly needed and when there is little options in order to move on. For instance, Chris needed a job  so he was forced in using his real name. On the other side, once Chris had no obligations he would refer to himself as Alex. 

Life Away From Society

''I won't run into anything I can't deal with on my own...There was just no talking the guy out of it'' ( Krakauer 6 ). 

Topic: Inspiration Or Fool?

        From the quote it can be inferred that once an individual has become passionate and focused on whats important to them nobody can deter their decisions. Christopher McCandless is a strong example of this. Chris, before deciding to travel, went to college but unlike everyone else he wanted more from life in a sense of liberation. Chris also did not want to be like everyone and wanted to be a free individual, and thus he decided to leave society. Chris became passionate of this idea and packed his things in order to live off the land. Because Chris did not want to be associated with society he did not carry any items such as watches or phones. To survive Chris ate berries and with him had brought a bag of rice to allow him to stay in the wilderness.  Chris travels aimlessly to escape the normalities in which is imposed on himself.
